I think so far the most valuable nugget, and actually is something that can just completely change the way one views prospecting, is Ben’s comment about not being bothered about hearing a “no”….just detach yourself from anything personal about it…the goal is to get a decision….you can make a fortune selling “stuff” if only 1 in 10 prospects buys, but that still means you have to listen to 9 people saying no. Are you going to let those 9 stand in your way of financial freedom? If so, you will never get to that 10th prospect that will write the check.

Can you talk about how you begin the conversation? I don’t see how one would make the transition from the email that talks about being featured in a publication to these questions about how their business is doing. Do you start by saying something like, “Before we talk about my publication, can you tell me about your business?”

    Norene,
Treat it like any conversation. No trickery. If they raised a hand, and you start talking, you can just guide them into the conversation to be about understanding their background. Also note: don’t let the model dictate/interrupt the conversation. By conversation, I mean – they should do 90% (or more) of the talking.

    Rock on!
